A 52-year-old man is to be sentenced next month for systematically raping and sexually assaulting his son over a three-year period.

He was convicted by a jury yesterday on 47 charges of abuse on dates between April 11, 2001, and June 23, 2004, in a case described by the judge as "particularly distateful".

He faces up to life imprisonment for raping his son.

The abuse started when the boy was 12 years old and the court was told it happened as often as twice a week.

The jury heard social services were heavily involved with the family from an early stage.
( oh really? GEEZE THEY WERN'T MUCH BLOODY GOOD WERE THEY?) HOW ABOUT A LITTLE INQUIRY INTO THEIR FAILURE
At the trial, the accused gave evidence denying the sexual abuse.

He said his son was lying and told the court "you wouldn't do it to an animal".

Mr Justice Barry White has today confirmed March 1 as the date for sentencing.
